New icons: praise, criticism and wishlist

vector's delivered a first set of new icons and here's what i think:
  • they look about 120435% better than my old icons. i like the stadium/finances icon most, all the pre-versions and discussions really seemed to have availed (hm.. is this correct english?).
  • i was pleasently surprised by the new week icon; i didn't know you worked on it.
  • i have some bits of criticism and ideas how to improve them even more (take this with salt, vector ):
    • the transfer list icon is all right, but the 'put' and 'remove from transfer list' icons are kinda too close together in the player menu, ie. the 'texts' on the right side of the icons don't seem separated. maybe it'd be better to make the text 'shorter', so that there's more space upwards and downwards.
    • the tables icon is very nice, but would it be possible to use the colors from the real tables, ie. orange for the first team and blue for the following ones?
    • the history graph icon is too dark (on my system), i can hardly spot the graph now; maybe it'd be better to make it yellow instead of dark green.
    • the stadium and bus icons both use purple, which clashes a bit with the shades of red that are elsewhere (e.g. the 'quit' icon on my system or the color of forwards or the orange arrow on the transfer list icon). perhaps it'd be possible to use orange or so instead of purple.
  • i have a little wishlist for new icons, so that vector doesn't get bored in the new year ;-):
    • the icon for 'fixtures' and 'preview' is a bit nondescript; it isn't bad, but it isn't good, either. maybe you have some idea how to make a better one.
    • the icons for 'increase capacity/safety' and 'borrow/pay back money' are a bit crude. your icons are a lot more elegant. you could take pity on them when you have the time :-)
    • the 'show league results' icon (the one that appears next to the arrows if you click on fixtures) isn't that bad, but doesn't really match the function of the button. perhaps you have a better idea for it.
the icons are in the cvs now and vector has cvs access :-)

suprise !! :)

salt added ;)
the transfer list icon is all right, but the 'put' and 'remove from transfer list' icons are kinda too close together
Yes understood will fix

the tables icon is very nice, but would it be possible to use the colors from the real tables, ie. orange for the first team and blue for the following ones?
yes its on my todo list
the history graph icon is too dark (on my system),
yes I noticed this. its something to do with the Gimp conversion. Ill change the color and see what happens. This icon is fine in 8 bit mode very strange

the stadium and bus icons both use purple,

originally orange which was real bad ;) Ill keep playing now that I know Im on the right track
orange arrow on the transfer list icon)
actually its red. Its something to do with the saturation falling off with small sizes just like the green trace in graph
i have a little wishlist for new icons, so that vector doesn't get bored in the new year ;-):
allready ahead of ya. Im getting carried away and have a few more in mind ill add your specifics to the list.

I have some other thoughts re the interface look and positions of some icons etc. I had written them out in an email along with the tar i sent you but the (rsync crash) i had has really messed my sytem and the email didnt go and didnt get backed up and I wasnt going to write it out again. I do apologise again for the short bug reports etc . I was short on time and had various "system" problems here. But wanted to get them off so you would have something to play with today.
the icons are in the cvs now and vector has cvs access :-)
im assuming this means i no longer need to use anonymous?
ill have a play...but very scared of breaking something.

we will see

As gyboth said to me ;-) ,
if you break something, we can roll back with CVS, it's the aim of such tools .

i said this to you? strange, i don't remember :-)
anyway, vector, here's something i forgot: if you add new pixmap files with cvs add, you have to use the -kb option 'cause they're binary files: cvs add -kb new_pixmap.png.

Ok today I used setup cvs and then to be sure i used cvs up and it all worked... but thats the easy bit.
Ill make some changes to the simpler Icons and try my first cvs add etc.

Im assuming once i have 'add'ed them to my cvs I then have to use "cvs commit" to get the changes to you?

yes, first you add (or overwrite existing icons with your updated ones), and then you make a cvs commit -m "Short comment what's changed.".

there's a weird thing with checking out afterwards: if you check out (or update) anonymously a short time after committing, your changes aren't there yet; you have to check out as a developer to see and maybe test your changes.

they're getting better and better. i like the preview and tables icons a lot now, and the graph looks good, too. i only tested them with cygwin, though; i won't have cvs access with linux for a week or so :-(

ah, one wish i've forgotten: the player menu button's not very fitting (a cog wheel on my system). another one for your todo list (btw, i can make a todo forum for you here if you like).

forgotten: you should rename the bus.png to new_week.png (and adjust the glade file if necessary). pixmap names should reflect the purpose of their buttons if possible.

true however i was still a little scared to go renaming and thus killing your icons without asking ;) who knows I might replace something that is dear to you.

this could be a good idea. I was going to make a topic for the bygfoot logo and that would be nice inside a todo list.

you're charming .. :-D killing an icon that's been downloaded about 5000 times. did you know it isn't possible to remove file releases completely from the sourceforge servers? you can only hide them. neither is it possible to remove files completely from the cvs repository ;-)

i've created it, and poof! you're moderator :-) posting and removing topics is restricted to you and me (though i'm not planning to do it), answering posts is of course allowed for anyone. it could be nice to have a topic/thread for each of your icons (or icon sets) so that things are organised and visible to others.
